Carrying the Cross

On this day, we remember how He willingly chose to carry His cross, despite being severely beaten and abused. We remember how He wore a crown of thorns, causing Him excruciating pain. We remember how He was crucified on a wooden cross, without being separated from His flesh, all for the sake of our salvation.

We remember how He descended into hell and saved the souls of the prisoners. This is a reminder of the depth of His love for us, and the lengths that He was willing to go to save us from our sin and death.

Feast of the Annunciation

The Feast of the Annunciation will fall on April 7, 2025.

The Feast of the Annunciation commemorates the moment when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to announce that she had been chosen to bear the Son of God.

The day is significant not only because it marks the conception of Jesus Christ, but also because it represents the moment when humanity was offered the opportunity for salvation through the Incarnation of the Word of God. The Feast of the Annunciation is therefore a celebration of hope and new beginnings.

This year, the commemoration of the Passion of Christ falls on the Saturday of Gebre Heir week, immediately preceding the commencement of Nicodemos week. Gebre Heir week is dedicated to the remembrance and veneration of those who have demonstrated faithful service to God. During this week, the Parable of the Talents serves as a central narrative, guiding believers to understand the value of faithful stewardship. This biblical story encourages individuals to recognize and cultivate their God-given gifts, translating them into acts of dedicated service and righteous living. The Passion of Christ commemoration within this week strengthens this message, reminding us of the ultimate sacrifice, and inspiring personal reflection on how we can live more righteously.

Immediately following, Nicodemos week begins on Sunday. This week shifts the focus to the transformative encounter between Jesus and Nicodemos, as recorded in John's Gospel. It delves into the themes of spiritual rebirth and the necessity of being 'born again' to enter the Kingdom of God. This transition from Gebre Heir to Nicodemos marks a movement from outward acts of service to an inward focus on spiritual renewal, emphasizing the need for a personal relationship with Christ.

Remembering the Passion of Our Lord

This section offers our archives of photo galleries from the previous two years, each offering a glimpse into our past observances of the Passion.

The central theme of this celebration is the remembrance of Christ’s suffering, death, and ultimate victory over death. Through prayers and hymns, the faithful reflect on the pain and sacrifice He endured for the salvation of humanity.

A key message found in these hymns is the guiding power of His divine favor, leading the righteous toward truth and salvation. The true Cross stands as the bridge that restored Adam to Paradise — the medicine of life that offers instant healing and redemption to all who believe. Just as He swiftly forgave the repentant soul on His right, the true Cross continues to extend grace and healing.
