Come celebrate Megabit Medhane Alem with us!

Carrying the Cross

On this day, we remember how He willingly chose to carry His cross, despite being severely beaten and abused. We remember how He wore a crown of thorns, causing Him excruciating pain. We remember how He was crucified on a wooden cross, without being separated from His flesh, all for the sake of our salvation.

We remember how He descended into hell and saved the souls of the prisoners. This is a reminder of the depth of His love for us, and the lengths that He was willing to go to save us from our sin and death.

Feast of the Annunciation

The Feast of the Annunciation will fall on April 6, 2025.

The Feast of the Annunciation commemorates the moment when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to announce that she had been chosen to bear the Son of God.

The day is significant not only because it marks the conception of Jesus Christ, but also because it represents the moment when humanity was offered the opportunity for salvation through the Incarnation of the Word of God. The Feast of the Annunciation is therefore a celebration of hope and new beginnings.

This gathering falls at the close of Niqodimos Week — a period dedicated to the themes of spiritual rebirth, inspired by the Pharisee who came to Jesus by night seeking truth. As this week of inward renewal draws to a close, we stand together on the eve of a profound transition.

The week beginning Sunday, April 5th, marks the most profound turning point in our spiritual calendar. We open the week by celebrating Hosanna, lifting our palm branches and our voices in joy to commemorate Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem as the Prince of Peace. However, this day of celebration is also a threshold.

As Hosanna concludes, we immediately cross into the deep solemnity of Semune Himamat, or Holy Week. The joyful shouts give way to a time of quiet reverence, strict fasting, and continuous prayer. Throughout this following week, we walk purposefully alongside Christ through His betrayal and crucifixion, preparing our hearts in the shadows so that we may fully embrace the light of the Resurrection.

Remembering the Passion of Our Lord

This section offers our archives of photo galleries from the previous two years, each offering a glimpse into our past observances of the Passion.

The central theme of this celebration is the remembrance of Christ’s suffering, death, and ultimate victory over death. Through prayers and hymns, the faithful reflect on the pain and sacrifice He endured for the salvation of humanity.

A key message found in these hymns is the guiding power of His divine favor, leading the righteous toward truth and salvation. The true Cross stands as the bridge that restored Adam to Paradise — the medicine of life that offers instant healing and redemption to all who believe. Just as He swiftly forgave the repentant soul on His right, the true Cross continues to extend grace and healing.
